The school has a strengthened department of approx. 20 pupils and an introductory class of approx. 10 pupils. The school has a lack of space, which is temporarily solved by a module building at the school place. Åstveit School also has challenges when it comes to universal design, as well as comments from environmental healthcare for the trafical system for the reinforced department. The taxis currently travel to the school place. The project shall be carried out with nearby sports facilities and sixth form colleges in operation.
