Tønsberg municipality has operated this ferry for most of the time, with the exception of a few years from 2012 where operations ceased as a result of savings. A major need for a ferry system in the local community meant that the ferry Ole III has been in operation in the summer seasons since 2017. Tønsberg municipality is now seeking to replace OLE IIII budget meeting 2023, resources were set aside for a new ferry and it was decided that the project would start the tender process again, with the goal of having a new ferry in operation in 2025. NOK 13 million has been granted in the budget decision for the execution of the project with a new ELECTRIC ferry, including the necessary infrastructure and quay installations.
