In 1975-1982 the area was renovated and facilitated to a recreational area. Further improvements over the years have resulted in a natural area with artificially landscaped beach and green areas. Establishing the beach and its orientation and development will cause the beach to erode and lose sand. Bergen municipality would like Kollevågen beach to be still attractive to visitors and that the sandy beach shall be more stable and maintenance free as possible. Today, the beach loses a lot of sand and blots underlying the stone layer. In the long term, it is demanding for resources and cost to improve the beach that is not optimally located and built up.
