The reference fleet has four main purposes:1 - Long-term and quality assured biological sample taking from the catches.a) Representative sample taking from the fisheries shall contribute to the research database providing the data basis to estimate the length and age composition of the catches for the main stocks, With emphasis on cod, haddock, sei, herring and mackerel.b) Ensure representative data on the length and age composition of catches over time as one of the basiss for valuation of the stocks.2 - Documenting the Fishing efforts and the species composition of total catches, including bi-capture, drafts and catches of non-commercial species, seabirds and marine mammals.a) Secure data basis for documenting total catches, as well as basis for monitoring biodiversity over time.b) Secure data basis for monitoring fishing efforts and catch per-unit effort.3 - Platform for collection special samples from the fisheries. 4 - Through partnership with the Norwegian Institute of Marine
