missioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aiming to strengthen Mozambique"s institutional capacities and contributes to the National Development Strategy 2015-2035. The project supports Mozambique's commitment to setting ambitious, realistic and science-based Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for the 2025 NDC Update Report, while promoting long-term climate resilience and a transition to renewable energy sources on a low emissions development pathway. Recent policy dialogues indicate that Mozambique does not yet have a long-term strategy or a net zero target, although in 2021, Mozambique started to formulate its Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS). In addition, the GoM extended its NDC Implementation Plan for 2023-2030. However, it has not submitted a 2030 target or long-term strategy to the UNFCCC. The presidential election in October 2024 will limit government activities during the election campaign, possibly leading to a significant delay in the update process. The effective adaptation and further development of the Mozambican NDCs for the period 2025-2030 nevertheless offers significant opportunities and a pathway towards attracting climate finance through ambitious target setting and sustainable economic development.
